AndyP VW Lupo

AndyP's award winning Lupo GTi is really shaping up to become a top class motor! We met up with him for a cuppa and a chat to find out more about the pocket rocket...
With a whoosh and a whine AndyP arrives with his supercharged Lupo Gti; a great little motor which he has owned for almost seven years now. The car started life as a rather tasty 1.6 Lupo Gti and OCD Andy kept it nice and fresh for three years before turning to the dark side of modifying.
Tuning it up after a few obvious mods of the Janspeed cat back 3.5" Twin Pipe exhaust and BMC filter Andy soon realised he wanted more, much more! The only way he could achieve what he wanted would be to go down the forced induction route and after a chat with Andy Waters at AWT Tracksport (Horncastle) a Mini Cooper S charger was found and the plans began. Two months later and the car is finally run in and setup.
A factory Lupo Gti makes 125bhp at the flywheel, a figure which is pretty respectable for a 1.6, especially in a car as light as a Lupo. This high power to weight ratio and handling of a go-kart impressed almost all of the motoring journo's and gave the car it's 'Loopy Lupo' nickname. Think about that for a second before you hear that Andy's now has a whopping 215bhp @ 6500rpm! That's a 72% gain in power!
But it's not all about power for Andy, while this final stage of the car was being completed he also overhauled the final stock part of the car; the interior. Now clad in Porsche terracota cow hide and smoothed off by loosing the front headrests the interior matches the standard of the exterior, and for that I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.
